Since we’ve opened, we’ve been dedicated to changing the lives of people one person at a time, through martial arts, education and coaching. We strive to provide a safe, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for all students and family members. We take pride in creating an environment for individuals to achieve, develop and succeed in their personal goals.
We strongly believe that martial arts can be for everyone, regardless of age, gender or experience levels. Sensei Shahin Jahanvash Owner/Head Instructor
Sensei Shahin Jahanvash was born into a martial arts family and growing up at his fathers studio, naturally, his martial arts training started as soon as he could walk. He started competing in tournaments at the age of 3. He won 1st place at age 3 1/2 at the Compete World Martial Arts Championship. Sensei Shahin earned his Black belt December 10, 2002 at the age of 7 1/2 under Shihan Sensei Louis D Casamassa, Grand Master of Red Dragon Karate. By that time he had competed in over 100 tournaments and had finished the year as Number 1 in AKKF (American Karate Kung Fu Federation) and TPA (Tournament Promoters Association)
As an adult, Sensei Shahin competed on the NASKA World Tour. He won Grand Champion and Overall Grand Champion at every NASKA World event. He has been undefeated in Traditional Weapon during his 16 years of competition on the NASKA World Tour he has won an impressive 41 World Champion titles.Shahin started teaching at the studio at the age of 15.
After college he decided to teach full time at Red Dragon Karate Diamond Bar. He has been influential in the lives of many students in Diamond Bar and around the world. After high school Shahin attended University of La Verne and received his Bachelors of Science in Broadcast Journalism. Sensei Shahin was promoted to 5th degree Black belt December 2018 at the age of 23, making him the youngest 5th degree in Red Dragon Karate. He thanks his mom and dad for his knowledge in martial arts and guidance in his life. He would also like to thank Shihan Chris Casamassa for his direction and motivation.
Sensei Jim Eppard
Sensei Jim Eppard started karate in 1993 and earned his first black belt at the age of 14 training under Shihan Mike Jablonski at the Azusa Red Dragon Karate. He focused all his energy and time into the sport and won hundreds of awards and championships including the Overall Weapons Gold Medallion at the Compete World Championships. He is enjoying coming back to the sport to teach the new generations and watch his own two children follow in his footsteps.
Sensei Kelly Yang
Sensei Kelly is a Second Degree Black Belt and also a member of the AAU-USA Karate Team. Sensei Kelly started her training at 8 years old under Shihan Mohamad Jahanvash at the Red Dragon Karate Diamond Bar dojo also under the instruction of Sensei Shahin. She has competed in regional, national and international karate tournaments. She recently placed 1st at the 2023 WUKF World Karate Championships in Dundee, Scotland. She is a 4-time National Kata and Weapon Top 3 competitor, 8-time Regional Kata Grand Champion and 5-time Regional Weapon Grand Champion. Sensei Kelly has taken her experience from competing against some of the best competitors around the country and world, and is now passing that on to the next generation of martial arts athletes.
Karen Arribas
Karen is an instructor and our enrollment director here at Red Dragon Karate Yorba Linda. She also trains herself along with her husband and two children. Karen also works as a speech pathologist and has years of experience working with children of all ages and all ability levels. Her passion for working with kids and love for the martial arts has made her into an amazing model and instructor for our students.
